I want to play Rugby at Dorking RFC - what do I do?

If you are a Senior, contact Michael Kornrumpf (call him on 07737 712189).

Better still, come along to training on a Tuesday and Thursday night or play touch rugby any Wednesday, meet the guys and have a run around.

Want to join the Club?

Contact Dermot Pearce the Membership Secretary or

any other member on the Contacts list on how to join our Club.

Jonny sends us his support for the Big Field Appeal

'Sport, and in particular rugby, has always played a major part in my life.  I have been lucky to enjoy the benefits of some great facilities throughout my childhood in Surrey both at school and within the community.

Encouraging people of all age groups to become involved in any sporting activity to match their capabilities is something very important to me. I believe the quality of care we give to our bodies is reflected almost perfectly in the quality of our life situations. Better and more accessible facilities will inevitably make it easier for everyone to experience what I know to be a lasting truth; engaging ourselves in a worthy pursuit like self improvement and helping others will never be something we later regret.

The proposed facilities for the new Dorking Rugby Football Club will make it a central part of a large and ever growing community where people from all walks of life can come and enjoy a positive, rewarding experience in both business and leisure.

I wish all those involved in this tremendous project my total support and have no doubt that the finished product will provide an excellent platform for the future of the area.'

Dorking RFC receive RFU recognition

DRFC were runners up in the category 'More than a Game' in the inaugural RFU President's XV Recognition Awards. We received an award of £100 for our instigation of the Christmas Under 21's tournament - details of which will be outlined in the 'Models of Good Practice' booklet to be published and distributed to the game.

Dorking RFC launch Clean Fields campaign

Dorking RFC has just launched a Clean Fields campaign to deter dog owners from letting their dogs foul on the club's pitches.

The Surrey club play at Big Field in Brockham on National Trust owned land from which dogs are prohibited. There are NT signs up at the entrances to the ground, which is also home to Brockham Bagders football club, but these have been ignored by many dog walkers.

The result has meant coaches and players having to mine-sweep pitches to remove offending turds.

Apart from being a disgusting job, dog faeces can be extremely harmful if it gets into a wound and with upwards of 500 Mini and Junior players using the rugby pitches, let alone the four senior sides and the football club, Dorking decided to take action.

National Newspaper cartoonist Scott Clissold was hired to produce a series of cartoons to highlight the anti-social nature of the problem, while tackling it with good humour rather than confronting offending dog owners.

The cartoons form part of the £1,000 laminated poster campaign. There are four different posters which will be used over an extended period of time to really concentrate minds of dog owners. The first of these cartoons is attached.

Local newspaper, radio and TV stations have been approached to encourage publicity.

Club chairman David Judd said: "It is a problem for us, like a great many other sports clubs. WE are not anti dog, far from it. Many of us are dog owners, but there are plenty of other places in the area to let the dog off the lead without problem. But letting a dog off on our pitches is unacceptable and we are determined to put a stop to it."

Dorking RFC will be happy to sell a campaign pack for use on other sports grounds - proceeds after costs will go towards the RSPCA.
