Girls National
Championships
Under 18s Report
The Dorking/London Irish
cluster entered the National U-18 15 aside
tournament at Lichfield on Sunday. On arrival we
discovered it was 12 aside. With a huge squad of
more than 20 we were exceptionally well served
in the event of the inevitable injuries.
The format was 4 league matches a semi and then
a final.
The first match pitched us against Paviours,
winners of the U-15 event on Saturday,. Paviours
came with a fearsome reputation but were
despatched ceremoniously in in strong exhibition
of rucking and running. Similar results were
achieved against Aylesbury, Welwyn and East
Yorkshire. In the semis we played against
Worcester, who have been regular winners of the
event. A scrappy affair saw Dorking /Irish win
by one try in three, despite totally dominating.
In the final we met Reading, who had come
through a difficult qualifying. Despite
Dorking/Irish's domination. The half time score
was 10-10. After few harsh words, the girls
performed according to their coaches request and
they ran out worthy winners 20-10.
Congratulations to all players, coaches,
parents, helpers for their massive contribution.
Thanks
Stewart
Under 15s Report
On a cold and wet Saturday, the combined Dorking
/ London Irish U15 girls took to the Lichfield
turf to take part in the National Championship.
Having won the Surrey league (undefeated), the
Worthing 10s (undefeated and no tries let in)
and having not lost a game all season hopes
were high.
The girls played magnificently polishing off
Worcester 40 0 in the opening match. Morpeth,
were harder to handle, and played very well at
the breakdown and in the loose however the
dominance of our forwards meant that they had
limited ball, and as a result the final score
was 19 to 5 in favour of the Dorking / LI team.
Into the semi finals and up against our old
friends, Welwyn. 39 0 was not really a fair
reflection on the game which was hard fought
but by now the girls were on a role.
Into the final. Paviors were fast. Quick hands
and quick wingers saw them up one try in a
couple of minutes game on! Fantastic forward
play especially by Amber, and the scores were
level at half time at 7 all. The second half
was all Dorking / London Irish. The girls in
green were camped on the Paviors line for ever
then disaster. A scrum against the head meant
that the opposition were able to clear their
lines, sprint after the ball and score
.the
whistle blew
. full time.
Well done to Paviors for holding us out, and
scoring the winning try bad luck Dorking /
London Irish who played the better rugby
roll
on next year!
